Love In Action was formed by Kay Krause in July 2025 to support
the 120 ICE detainees and the other 28 detainees being held at
the Chase County Detention Center in Kansas.
Through compassion, encouragement, and practical support,
Love In Action helps detainees stay connected while providing
resources that bring comfort and hope.

Donations help provide stamps, holiday treats, Pen Pal email services, and other support for detainees.
The only hands-on volunteer opportunity is to be a Pen Pal with a detainee. Contact Kay for information on how to become a Pen Pal.

This is the July, 2026 month end report for Love in Action. We started the month with $8,491.01.
We received $319.29 from VENMO donations, $80 in cash donations, and $380 in donations that came in via checks.
$153 worth of goods was purchased via our Amazon gift registry. We received 534 stamps via donations.
We spent $1,329.10 in stamps, special events for the Detainees, Pen Pal email fees, and the initial expense to set up our website.
We ended the month with $7,941.20 on hand with $6,000 of that still due to the Detention Center when the exercise equipment bill comes. The funds donated for the pizza event in August are not included in these numbers.
We provided wings with sauces to the Detainees for July 4th. On Love in Action’s birthday July 11, we gifted each Detainee a cupcake so they could celebrate with us. On July 19, each Detainee got a Coke and a bag of popcorn to enjoy while they watched the World Cup.
I hope you all saw the thank you notes the Detainees sent for these events.
On July 11, 25 donors gathered to celebrate Love in Action’s first year of service to the Detainees. It was a heart-filled day where the donors got to hear the history of Love in Action and great musical entertainment presented by Elexa Dawson.
The white boards that the Detainees signed and the Lieutenant brought to the party brought tears to my eyes. They are posted on our Facebook page so all can share in them. The Detainees really do appreciate all that Love in Action does for them.
The stamp drive has been very successful as we have received 834 stamps over the last two months. We will continue the stamp drive as an ongoing project.
Stamps can be mailed to Love In Action, Inc., 421 Plum St., Cottonwood Falls, KS 66845. At this time, we do not need any international stamps.
Our Pen Pal program continues. We are currently writing to eight Detainees. I trust both parties in the Pen Pal program are finding it to be rewarding. It can be hard to be a volunteer though, as some of the life stories we hear can break your heart. However, I know that having someone that allows you to share your story and walk beside you can lighten the load for the Detainee.
I am continuing to work on setting up a website for Love in Action. I am concerned that our only means of communication is via Facebook. We should launch the site sometime in August. Stay tuned for details!
Every year on my birthday I throw myself a party. My birthday is August 21 and this year I want to give the Detainees pizza to help me celebrate. It costs about $800 for enough pizza for all the Detainees and the staff that are working when it is served. I have a Facebook Fundraiser happening to help raise the funds to make this happen. What isn’t raised, I will donate.
The Center is currently overloaded with Detainees as the current government’s administration continues its policy of detaining anyone they can find that is undocumented. The Center has been averaging 170 Detainees daily. Their official capacity is 148.
I think every successful nonprofit needs a succession plan and I want to start putting one into place. If you might be interested in taking over my role or at least a part of it, please call me and let’s talk. I have no immediate plans to step aside but I do want to start putting a plan in place for when that day comes.
I transported a released ICE Detainee on July 30. Her birth country is China and she currently lives in New York. I helped her get to KC where she needed to pick up her ID from the Department of Homeland Security in KCMO and then catch a flight home to New York. She had no cash on her when she was picked up.

Kindness is more than deeds. It is an attitude, an expression, a look, a touch. It is anything that lifts another person. We are all capable of acts of tremendous love and kindness. Thank you for sharing your acts of kindness and love with Love in Action so the Detainees can feel your love and kindness.

Through the generosity of supporters, Love In Action has been able to provide meaningful resources, encouragement, and practical support to detainees at the Chase County Detention Center.
